February 2005: I'm finally getting around to loading some pictures of my latest fabric postcards (to mail!). My digital camera is misbehaving so these aren't the greatest pictures, but, well, better than nothing (I hope).
August 2004: Fabric postcards are all the rage again, but this time they've got a bit of a different twist. More and more people are making them and *mailing* them to each other! Many of these postcards are more along the lines of "small works of art" than "picture" postcards. I've been itching to give it a try myself, and so today I finally made one. I used a piece of my hand dyed silk and hand dyed thread (in the bobbin, so I had to work from the back). I was sewing through timtex with a jeans needle - it doesn't look great, but that was the only big needle I had. I probably need to experiment more with needles and timtex and the 27wt thread, but all in all, I think it looks pretty good. I made the back side - the mailing side - in PSP and printed it onto hand dyed cotton. I've blanked out the address area on the scan to protect the innocent. :-) Finished size is 4 1/4 x 6 1/4.
Postcards: Several years ago, I bought a copy of Judi Warren's book Fabric Postcards and was very intrigued by the idea of reproducing a small pictorial image with fabric. I made a few then, did a few guild presentations on them, and then life got in the way for a few years. But recently I've started revisting the format and am really enjoying myself, and I'm finally comfortable enough with the process to offer a workshop.
Journal Quilts: Last year I briefly toyed with doing the "journal quilts" that many of the QuiltArt members have been doing, some of which are shown at the IQA shows. The idea is to do one a month, 9x12. After doing a few, I found that it just wasn't working for me, but I'll start adding pictures of those here, too.
