Statement:
My work
is mostly traditional with a twist. I like taking the old patterns-mariner's
compass, lone star-and combining them in unusual ways, using odd color
combinations, including appliqué and lots of hand quilting with
colored threads. I often employ "old fashioned" methods-templates,
hand piecing and appliqué-to achieve my vision.
Workshops
and Lectures:
Ø
Fabric Dyeing in Jars: A neat, easy way to dye a rainbow of 12 colors
in fat quarters using fiber reactive dyes.
Ø Experimenting with Dyeing: Learn how to dye color gradations
and play with various techniques to create visual textures in handdyed
fabrics.
Ø Quilted Boxes Workshop: Create a finished fabric covered box
with a pieced or appliqué lid, perfect as a sewing or jewelry box.
Ø Mariner's Compass Made Easy: This class presents some 'old-fashioned'
techniques that are used to create a Mariners Compass block.
Ø Fabric Postcards: An explanation and demonstration of the design
process and construction of small quilts based on postcards or photographs.
Ø Tarot Art Quilt Project (slide presentation): This program presents
each of the 78 quilts along with commentary on both the meaning of the
card/quilt and the artist's statement. I will also show and discuss the
design process of the three quilts that I contributed to the project.
