Winter: Life in Boxes - April 1998 |
||||
|
This was the first in my Separation series, working through the end of my seventeen-year marriage. Many of the fabrics
I used in this quilt were my own handdyeds. The quilting is all squares,
closed boxes. The name comes from what a friend of mine said when I told
him about the end of the marriage: "I hate it when people step outside
the boxes I've created for them." |

Spring:
Breaking Out - |
||||
| This was the second
in my Separation series, working through the end of my seventeen-year marriage.
Many of the fabrics
I used in this quilt were my own handdyeds, a few fabrics carried over
from the earlier piece. But this time the quilting is a few open squares
with lots of new plant growth coming out of them. A lot of the fabrics
I chose for the triangles have special meaning to me, too |

Summer:
Unfinished |
||||
| This was the third
and final in my Separation series, working through the end of my seventeen-year
marriage.
Many of the fabrics I used in this quilt were my own handdyeds, a few fabrics carried over from the earlier two pieces. The quilting in this one is buds and blooms in colored thread. I agonized so much over this piece, doing the applique, tearing it off, quilting it, tearing out more applique, putting more on, etc. I wanted something that was "perfect", and I never got it. So I finally gave up, and call this piece unfinished. As the process I was going through will be forever unfinished, too. I continue to learn and grow and bloom, and don't plan to stop until I take my last breath. |
