 To
me, the King of Cups represents a master of the emotional
realm. He is a person who is creative and is able to express
himself in all ways with grace and poise. He exudes empathy,
and always provides wise counsel. His cup represents an
emotional caring for others that is overflowing and selfless.
This King is a man that brings to his community a celebration
of spirit and a feeling of joy to all that surround him.
He is a symbol for that spark of hope that can be reborn
in one's heart at the darkest moments of life. And being
thus, he unites all together as one people, one family.
When considering who I might make my King to be, I thought
of this man, living in the sea of emotion; a leader of
all, kindly and strong. I saw a community around him,
kept in balance by his love and guidance; his strength
and support reaching far and wide, seemingly endless in
its capacity. It was easy to imagine the King of this
ocean to be Neptune, and I chose to illustrate him simply
enjoying his realm, in a painted whole-cloth quilt.
