I
was immediately drawn to the Seven of Pentacles card,
though not aware, initially, of its meaning. Our family
has lived on a farm in Tennessee for twenty-four years.
I made this quilt in tribute to my husband Tom, who has
a particularly strong love of gardening.
A garden provides a good illustration for many aspects
of the card, and for many issues in life. One such issue
is the ability to shape the physical environment, versus
the larger power of nature. It is not just about physical
control, but about using personal power wisely.
The card may indicate a change in occupation, a pregnancy,
or abundance coming after a period of shortages. The reverse
interpretation of the card could concern money worries,
bad luck, misspent energy, or unwise investments.
The view of the garden stretching into the distance
indicates the large amount of time and labor that have
been required. The number and variety of flowers/pentacles/coins
show abundance and the arrival of material success. I
used lively greens predominantly to portray growth, optimism,
and earthiness. Small dots of other bright colors add
to the cheer.
This card reminds us to be patient and persevere, often
in solitude, waiting for the right season to reap rewards.
The gardener, in contemplation, assesses achievements
thus far, and plans goals for the future. It is a turning
point.
