Another Mariner's Compass/Lone Star:

8/22/03 - Last night I *finally* got the outer star bits to have the right size hole in the center to put the compass in (next time I do one of these, I think I'll make the star first and then fit the compass to the hole; it's *got* to be easier!). I laid it out on two big work tables in my living room (soon to be classroom) and got everything pinned in place. I couldn't get far enough above it to take a picture of the whole thing, but I stood on a stool and stretched up and out with the camera as far as I could. Then I looked at the pictures, only to see that the colors weren't quite lined up right. So I unpinned it all and rotated it a bit. Then I took more pictures (some of these show the piles of pins in the middle) before I pinned it all to see how it lined up. Somehow it's easier to see if the colors move the way I intended by looking at the photos rather than just looking down at it; digital cameras are wonderful things.
